John has always been a committed promoter of British music raging against the prevailing indifference to home grown composers! Recent performances include Holbrooke’s “The Birds of Rhiannon” (WSO), Bax’s Fourth Symphony (ESO), Malcolm Arnold’s Fourth Symphony (WSO & ESO). John is a keen supporter of the annual Malcolm Arnold Festival held in Northampton every October and this year conducts both the Sixth and Ninth symphonies in the Festival’s complete symphony cycle (21-23 October).
John is chairman of the British Music Society and a Trustee of the William Alwyn Foundation.
