The 2011 Proms Season seems to have been a great success and great to see some real British rarities geting some real exposure. The mighty Gothic Symphony and loads of Frank Bridge but perhaps, for me, the most exciting was to see a Bax Symphony at the Proms and in a programme of such daring that I thought it must have been inspired by and Ealing Symphony Orchestra programme! Clearly mxing unusual with some well-known titbits (Barber Adagio, Copland Fanfare for the Common Man) worked drawing a great house! There seems to be a growing willingness to give British music a go and audiences are finding that many of these pieces are of greater interest than they expected. What will they make of Arthur Benjamin's string concertos when my new disc with the RSNO is released in October on the Dutton Epoch label!
